AIESEC has opportunities abroad for both current students and recent graduates.

There are four types of traineeships, which can range from 2-24 months long:
Development (working in the non-profit sector), Education (teaching English or
other important skills), Management (helping develop business), and Technical
(in engineering or IT-related field). The countries with the most opportunities
available are China, India, Egypt, Turkey, Poland, Morocco, Colombia, and Brazil.
There is a $45 system access fee and a $455 "match" fee paid when you are
matched to a specific traineeship.

If you are looking to go abroad for summer 2010, please check back in early January 2010
for details on information sessions and applications. If you are interested in going abroad in
the Fall or Winter terms, please contact Grayson Smith (Vice President of Outgoing Exchange) at
graysmit@umich.edu.

The Full Exchange Process

Preparation

Every exchange participant who is going abroad participates in an Exchange
Preparation Seminar. The training focuses on psychological processes, such as
culture shock and homesickness.

As soon as the participant is matched, the foreign LC will send him or her a
Reception Booklet. This Booklet contains information on the city, the culture,
and the LC in general.

Integration

The Integration starts as soon the exchange participant arrives in the foreign
country. A group of AIESECers pick the participant up from the airport. Often,
big banners with his or her name and welcome packages are given to the
participant. After arrival, the LC supports the participant continuously. They
are provided with help finding housing, doing necessary job paperwork, and
answering all questions. Many LCs also initially go through a preparation
seminar with the participant to introduce them to the local culture.

In the foreign country, the trainee will go through many learning experiences
that are part of the integration process. Going on an exchange with AIESEC
means learning about a foreign culture, as well as developing culturally and
professionally while gaining work experience.

Re-Integration

Re-Integration is the phase after the participant returns home from abroad.
After being abroad for a long time, one's own culture might seem quite strange.
AIESEC tries to help students avoid and deal with reverse culture shock.
